Introduction / History

The Gandia people used to be primitive and often isolated, but of late they are slowly merging with mainstream Indian society and are seeing much development.

Where Are they Located?

The Gandia people live in Rajasthan, a state in northwestern India.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Gandia are mainly farmers but also work as daily laborers when they do not have work in their fields.

The Gandia love socializing. They make use of every opportunity to meet their friends and relatives. A weekly market in each locality draws many people for this purpose, not just for selling and buying. Young boys and girls also use these socializing events to choose their life partners.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The Gandia people practice Hinduism, the ancient religion of India. They worship and serve the gods of the Hindu pantheon. Hindus believe that by performing rituals and good works that they will attain moksha or freedom from the endless cycle of birth, death and rebirth. They visit Hindu temples and offer prayers, food, flowers, and incense to their gods in hopes of gaining protection and benefits. They do not have a personal or familial relationship with their gods like Christians or Jews. There are many forms of Hinduism, each with its own deities and beliefs.

The main yearly holidays of the Gandia people are Holi, the festival of colors and the start of spring / Diwali, the festival of lights / Navratri, the celebration of autumn / and Rama Navami, Rama's birthday.

What Are Their Needs?

The Gandia people need to find ways to make a good living so they can afford to give their children higher education. This will result in economic advancement.

Prayer Points
