Introduction / History

The 110,000 Chadar people live mainly in Madhya Pradesh, India's most central state. Their name means "weaver." They consider themselves to be descendents of the prestigious Rajputs. Traditionally, many of them were employed as village watchmen, while others were weavers.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Educated Chadars have their own caste association known as the Chadar Kshatriya Samaj, which is intended to look after their interests and maintain law and order.

What Are Their Beliefs?

This group is almost completely Hindu, and only about one in 500 is Christian of any kind. Most speak Hindi, so there are Christ-centered materials in a language they can understand.

Prayer Points

Pray that biblical materials will soon become widely available in Chadar communities.
Pray that they will open their hearts to the King of Kings.
