Introduction / History

The Angarok in Bihar speak Bengali and Hindi and read and write in Bengali and Devanagari. They are not vegetarians and eat rice. On the death of the father the property goes to the sons. There are birth and marriage rituals among them and the dead are cremated. They work in cultivation and some as laborers. They have an organization that looks after them.

The Angarok in West Bengal are not allowed to divorce and widows cannot marry again. They are mostly landowners. Modern medicine is used by them.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The Angarok are Hindus and worship ancestors too.
