Introduction / History

The Walser people speak the Walser German dialects which are not intelligible with standard German. They live in in a part of the Alps that straddles Switzerland and Liechtenstein, and small areas of Austria and Italy. Their first homeland was in Valais, Switzerland. Around 1300 they began to migrate elsewhere.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Walser speakers are mostly rural unlike most of the European population.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Walser people are mostly Christian. They might be either Protestant or Roman Catholic. Church to them is a place to be married or buried, but it’s seldom a place to find guidance from the only savior. Like most Europeans, their worldview is largely secular.

What Are Their Needs?

The Walser people need to allow Jesus Christ to affect their worldview and guide their decisions.

Prayer Points
