The Xavante are an Indigenous people living mainly in Mato Grosso state in Brazil. They belong to the Jê linguistic family and are known for strong warrior traditions and communal organization.
During the twentieth century, contact with ranchers, settlers, and government expansion brought disease, violence, and land conflicts. Despite these hardships, the Xavante preserved much of their culture and language.
Most Xavante communities practice agriculture, hunting, fishing, and handicraft production. Ceremonies and communal life remain central to their culture.
Modern education and healthcare have expanded, but poverty, land pressure, and environmental problems continue affecting many villages.
Young people increasingly encounter outside cultural influences. Evangelical believers among the Xavante can encourage discipleship, biblical leadership, and healthy family life.
Traditional Xavante beliefs include ceremonies, initiation rituals, and spiritual practices connected to nature and ancestors. Shamans traditionally guided spiritual life and healing rituals.
Some Xavante communities have contact with Christianity, though traditional beliefs remain influential in many areas.
From an evangelical perspective, the Xavante need strong biblical teaching and mature discipleship centered on Jesus Christ alone.
Socially, the Xavante need protection of land rights, healthcare, and educational opportunities. Young people need support in balancing tradition and modern challenges.
Economically, many villages face poverty and limited employment opportunities. Sustainable community development is important for long-term stability.
Spiritually, the Xavante need Indigenous churches led by mature believers who can discipline future generations and share the gospel regionally.
Pray that Xavante believers would grow strong in biblical faith.
Pray for protection of Xavante land and communities.
Pray for Indigenous Christian leaders and discipleship.
Pray that younger generations would follow Christ faithfully.
Pray that Xavante Christians would become a gospel force throughout South America.
