Introduction / History

On the eastern border of Chad lives a people group characterized by rejection. Their very name, which means "send them far away," was given to them by the predominant Maba group. Not only does their past label them as rejected, but to many, the present does also. Often, Assangori men cross the border into Sudan where they find good roads, education, industry, and developed communities. These are all things that the Assangori lack in their own area, and it leads them to question why they have been refused the luxuries that others have. As a result, the Assangori experience a sense of hopelessness.

Hours upon hours in the village are spent consuming millet beer as an escape from the responsibilities and challenges facing them. Although they say they want to see change and progress, they lack motivation to do something about it. The sting of the past and the pain of the present have marred the hope of a brighter future.

What Are Their Needs?

Only an outpouring of the Holy Spirit and a demonstration of Christ's love to the Assangori will change their perspective. With Christians living among them to learn their ways, meet some of their needs, and give them a new outlook on life, the lives of the Assangori could be dramatically transformed.

Pray that the Lord will prepare the hearts of the Assangori for the Gospel, as well as raise up Christians who will be a part of this adventure. Also pray that soon the Assangori, who have endured much rejection, will understand true acceptance, as they experience the Father's unconditional love.
