In 1652, the Dutch began to colonize what is now South Africa. In the 1800s, South Africa was taken by the British Empire, and they began to send permanent settlers. Grouped together, these two are called White South Africans, but they are set apart from each other by culture, language, and often hostility. Those of British descent, the Anglo-South Africans, generally stayed in the coastal areas for trade, while the Dutch Boers, lived inland where they farmed.
In 1961, the United Kingdom granted independence for a new nation, South Africa. 1994 brought about the end of apartheid, a system that kept local Black Africans separate from the White population. Since that time, White South Africans, including Anglo-South Africans, have been leaving the country. Anglo-South Africans live in five countries including South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and Lesotho.
Auckland is home to most of New Zealand s Anglo-South African population.
A high percentage of Anglo-South Africans in New Zealand are in the IT, medical, publishing, and insurance industries. Knowing the Bible and attending church are both very valuable, but being close to Christ is the ultimate need of any people. The Anglo-South Africans need the Holy Spirit to revive their hearts, drawing them closer to Jesus Christ.
Pray for a spiritual revival in Anglo-South African churches and families.
Pray that soon Anglo-South African evangelists and missionaries will take Christ to wherever they live.
Pray for Anglo-South African disciples to make more disciples in New Zealand.
