Introduction / History

Ndam, or Dam is a language spoken only in Chad. There were no efforts to reduce this language into writing until the 21st century. Even now, it is very difficult to find people who can read this language.

Where Are they Located?

Ndam speakers live in southern Chad near the border with the Central African Republic.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Ndam speakers live in a dry land where they eke out a living through farming and herding. They live in simple homes built with natural materials.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The primary religion practiced by the Ndam people is animism, or ethnic religion. Ethnic religion is deeply rooted in a people's ethnic identity and conversion essentially equates to cultural assimilation. However, as Scriptures are translated into their language—and hopefully there will be audio scriptures as well—Ndam speakers will be able to hear the gospel in their own tongue.

What Are Their Needs?

People who speak this language need literacy training. About the only things translated into Ndam are Bible portions from Genesis, Matthew, and possibly Ephesians.

Prayer Points

Pray that the Word of God will dramatically affect the hearts of Ndam speakers in Chad.
Pray for Christian radio broadcasts and the JESUS Film to become available in the Ndam language.
Pray for spiritual hunger that will lead members of this people group to the cross.
Pray for a disciple making movement among them that will transform their communities into the likeness of Christ.
