Introduction / History

Mingrelia is in the western part of Georgia, but some live in Russia.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Mingrelians speak, read and write Georgian. Most of them live in rural regions in two-story brick or wooden houses. In the towns they tend to live in apartments. Agriculture is the main work of the Mingrelians. Maize is the main crop.

Couples marry young and in the rural regions they have large families. Official marriages are no longer religious, but some have a second marriage in a church. The largest form of birth control is abortion.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The main religion among them is Georgian Orthodox. Few Mingrelians attend church. Death is mourned in public.

What Are Their Needs?

The Mingrelian people need the spiritual hunger to give their hearts to Jesus Christ.

Prayer Points

Pray that sorrow in death will cause the Mingrelians to look to the resurrection, and Christ’s victory over death.
Pray that Mingrelian church goers will seek to have a living relationship with Jesus Christ.
Pray for them to look to God for all their physical and spiritual needs.
