Kunamas are indigenous Eritreans and an ethnic group of Nilo-Saharan people found in Eritrea, Sudan, and Ethiopia. Over time they migrated into these countries and farmed there. They live in villages with homes made of straw huts. They speak Kunama. The villages inhabited by Kunama are remote and far away from other civilians.
Kunamas are located in the Gash-Barka region of Eritrea, Tigray region of Ethiopia, and Kassala, Sudan, and its outskirts.
Kunama are mainly pastoralists and agriculturalists, and many are cattle herders. Kunama are known for their farming. Their home region in Eritrea is known as The Bread-basket of Eritrea.
Kunama practice a religion that includes worship of the sun god Anna. Some Kunama converted to Catholicism and Islam. The number of non-Christians is still high.
Pray for the Kunamas to have their water needs met.
Pray for the Kunama to have the spiritual hunger it takes to seek and find Jesus Christ.
Pray that they may understand the Word of God and eagerly apply it to their lives.
