Introduction / History

The Komodo language is threatened, according to the Ethnologue. Their island home is small, Komodo island can only sustain a very small population.
The Komodo people live on the Komodo Island in Indonesia.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Komodo Dragon is better known than the people of this island. This dangerous reptile has killed Komodo people and their livestock. For this reason, the Komodo people keep their goats and other livestock on platforms for protection. The population of the local Komodo people is low; they share their island home with the more aggressive Buginese and Madurese. There is also a Chinese trading post. Komodo National Park is on the island and tourism was once the island's main source of revenue. However, rumors of park closure and increased awareness of the dangers of Komodo dragons have limited tourism to only the most adventurous visitors.

What Are Their Beliefs?

They are Sunni Muslims who believe the prophesies of Mohammed and agree to the basic tenets of Islam. However, as people living in rural Indonesia, they tend to add pre-Islamic beliefs to their form of Islam. They fear the spirit world, for example.

What Are Their Needs?

The Komodo people need to put their trust in Jesus Christ so they can be freed from fear and the spirit world. They need to allow him to give them life to the full.
