Introduction / History

The Agutaynon people live on Agutaya and Palawan Islands in the Philippines.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Living near water, most of them are fishermen. Some are carpenters or slash and burn farmers.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Most are Roman Catholic with a smaller Protestant population. They maintain a number of superstitions. One should never sing while eating, and an unmarried woman who sings while cooking will marry a widower. If a coffin is not fitted exactly to the deceased then someone else will soon die. Never eat rice seeds while planting or the rats will eat the planted seed. Store owners should not sell salt or needles at night.

What Are Their Needs?

The Agutaynon people need to better understand faith in Jesus Christ. Without adequate Bible teaching they are likely to put their faith in saints and other intercessors for their needs rather than the King of kings.

Prayer Points

Pray for the Agutaynon people to center their lives around faith in Jesus Christ alone.
Pray that soon Agutaynon disciples will disciple others in the faith.
Pray for them to eventually send missionaries to reach Muslim peoples.
